My 2007 golf resolutions
Posted this on the forum over at The Golf Space, my new favorite online hangout
1. Get a handicap. Time to grow up, LOL. I mean, it won’t be THAT embarrassing, will it???
2. Learn to do a better job getting my head out of the way so my body can just PLAY.
3. Cure my slice. And if that means ponying up for lessons, so be it.
4. Get my first birdie.
5. Have fun!

Absolutely get a handicap, and make sure to post ALL your scores. Do NOT get hung up on lowering it right away; enjoy the strokes you get (and the winnings you can collect if you are really honest, especially from the boys–most of whom do not post their high scores and end up with an artificially (ego-driven) low handicap). I learned this lesson again this winter when my 73-year old dad schooled me three days in a row with the highest handicap he has ever had. He had made some adjustments in his swing after taking a lesson (another good resolution) and the changes took some time to sink in. In the meantime he won enough money as he improved to pay for the lesson and then some. “Have fun” should be first and “play more” should be second. Nice work.
