In the hunt for par

Durand Eastman

Because I’m A. on a budget, and B. too much of a newbie to right about investing country club dollars into my game just yet, I’ve mostly stuck to the municipal clubs. Today I played Durand Eastman.

It was my first time on that course.

Only nine holes — I played over lunch — and I played terribly — no big surprise given how inconsistently I’ve been practicing this summer, plus I badly badly badly need someone to take a look at my swing.

Didn’t get a single par. Not one. Not even on the 96-yard par three with the elevated tee, for crying out loud. Bleck.

But it was a gorgeous day, and the course is very picturesque, and a lot harder than Genesee Valley, where I’ve done most of my playing.

And hey. At least I got out.

I’ll go back and do the full 18 soon . . .

(Wish I’d remembered my camera. While waiting to drive on #12, a hawk swept down right over our heads and pounced on something — presumably a mouse — in the tall grass along the brook in front of the green, not 20 feet from where we stood. I’ve never seen a wild hawk that close up. Quite a thrill.)

Hey, I’ve played there! I think that’s the only NY course on my list.

That’s too funny — from California to Durand Eastman?

I’m actually tempted to go back & try 18 there a little bit later on today . . .
