In the hunt for par

Now we’re getting some place

“They say” that when you take lessons, your game will initially get a little worse. That’s been true for me — despite having a few great holes, I’ve been watching my already-high-handicap creep up the last few weeks, instead of going the other way.

But I may have turned a corner within the last few days (knock on graphite). I’m getting the hang of relaxing my right arm during my address which seems to be easing my slice, if not getting rid of it entirely — so I’m getting down the fairway with fewer strokes. Which helps. And although my short game is still pretty uneven it’s getting better, too. So, yesterday, I shot a 54 on nine at the Churchville muni course. Yeah, it’s an easy course but still, that’s the closest I’ve been to breaking 50 in a looong while. It was darn nice to have nothing bigger than a seven on my scorecard.

I can’t wait to get out again tomorrow :-)
