I won a tournament :-)

July 20th, 2008

Rochester region EWGA chapter tournament, played at Ravenwood yesterday. I shot a 101 and took low gross for my flight.
I’m a happy camper

The inner game

June 11th, 2008

(Crossposted at my other blog.)
Last fall, around the time it got too cold to golf anymore, I was feeling pretty discouraged about the game.
It seemed to me that after a year & a half of playing I should have been getting better. Ha. I was as close to breaking 100 at the end of 2006 [...]

Taranwould in Newark N.Y.

August 26th, 2007

Played 18 at Taranwould Golf Course with the EWGA travel league today. It’s a short course — 4350 yard, par 66 — but it doesn’t play particularly short, at least not to this admitted neophyte golfer.
One of the interesting things about the course is that several of the holes are replicas of holes at famous [...]

Genesee Valley Park

August 23rd, 2007

Rochester’s got three municipal golf courses, and Genesee Valley Park is the one that’s closest to my house. For that reason it’s the course I’ve played the most since I took this game up in the middle of last summer.
I played a couple times there this week now, too. Sunday I played my best [...]

Livingston Country Club

August 19th, 2007

I often stick my digital camera in my golf bag, but I haven’t been very good about publishing the pics I take. (It’s a great way to cool your heels if you’re behind slow players btw.)
So here to set things right are a couple pictures I took yesterday while golfing with my EWGA travel league [...]

Now we’re getting some place

August 17th, 2007

“They say” that when you take lessons, your game will initially get a little worse. That’s been true for me — despite having a few great holes, I’ve been watching my already-high-handicap creep up the last few weeks, instead of going the other way.
But I may have turned a corner within the last few days [...]

My 2 birds — no accident

August 3rd, 2007

When I went to the Rochester LPGA in June, they were offering free 10 minute lessons. Fortunately they were booked solid that day, so instead I got option B: take a lesson with golf pro Darlene Sommer at Play Better Golf.
So a few weeks later I set up an appointment and went in.
It blew [...]

Durand Eastman

July 12th, 2007

Because I’m A. on a budget, and B. too much of a newbie to right about investing country club dollars into my game just yet, I’ve mostly stuck to the municipal clubs. Today I played Durand Eastman.
It was my first time on that course.
Only nine holes — I played over lunch — and I [...]

Lakeview Golf Course, Owasco, NY

May 29th, 2007

At long last, I got out to golf yesterday — met my parents at Lakeview Golf Course in Owasco.
Here’s a pic of the ninth green.

And here are the stats, courtesy Golflink:  6,434 yards, par of 70 (via the score card, women’s 5777 par 72), course rating is 70.4, slope rating 118. Designed by Tom Bendelow, opened in in [...]
